NCWUA Update 5-9-24

Canal Start-up

In order to conserve reservoir storage, I do not plan to start either canal until there is demand. I do not plan any pre-charging/flushing of the canals to begin this irrigation season. Irrigators on either Douglas or North canals will need to contact me to let me know when you would like to start receiving water through the canal system. Hopefully, we can arrange start-up so that there is enough initial demand to better utilize our storage & minimize losses in delivery.

Nevada creek flows have remained well below normal. The recent rain has picked up the flow minimally, but the current 3-period average flow for decreed rights is only at 20.2 cfs, or 808mi. There is currently only 1 irrigator calling for decreed water downstream of the dam, but when I receive other calls, these rights will drop off rapidly. Decreed water user’s should plan on very restricted availability of decreed water. Of course as always, this can change with an increase in precipitation.

Thank you
