Notice – Planned Use of Cascade Aquatic Herbicide
This is a notice to all water users on Douglas canal that we plan to be injecting Cascade aquatic herbicide into Douglas canal sometime probably within the next 7 to 10 days. Cascade aquatic herbicide is used to control various pondweeds & other species of submerged aquatic plants that tend to create issues in canal systems by restricting the normal flow of water. Cascade is non-toxic to fish, and has no harmful effects on farm crops or other terrestrial plants. It is specific only to aquatic plant species.
The application will be metered into the canal flow at the main headgate for Douglas canal over a period of ~9 hours. I will need to maintain a constant flow rate of 30-35 cfs for the application in order to achieve adequate coverage of the canal. There will be no need for irrigators to alter their water use during this application.
I will issue another notice here on the website at least one day prior to doing the actual injection. For anyone interested, more information is available about Cascade here. Please feel free to contact me if you have any question or concerns.
