{"id":560,"date":"2018-02-22T14:10:52","date_gmt":"2018-02-22T21:10:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/?p=560"},"modified":"2018-02-22T14:10:52","modified_gmt":"2018-02-22T21:10:52","slug":"water-supply-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/?p=560","title":{"rendered":"Water Supply Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have posted the February <a href=\"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/water_files\/docs\/forecasts\/current_forecast.pdf\">Montana Water Supply Outlook Report<\/a>.\u00a0 It can be viewed on the <a href=\"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/?page_id=100\">Nevada Creek &#8211; Water Supply Data<\/a> page.<\/p>\n<p>The January &amp; February WSOR&#8217;s do not contain the usual official streamflow forecasts.\u00a0 Last week, I spoke with Lucas Zukiewicz from NRCS about this.\u00a0 His response was that due to the low level of accuracy for these early season forecasts, they determined that publishing them was counter-productive for future water use planning.\u00a0 They will again publish official streamflow forecasts beginning with the March WSOR.<\/p>\n<p>In the meantime, on the <a href=\"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/?page_id=100\">Water Supply Data<\/a> page, I have added links to the unofficial Daily Guidance Forecasts for Nevada creek if anyone is interested.\u00a0 These graphs are updated daily based stricktly on Snotel data, and do not consider current climate trends &amp; weather forecasts as with the official WSOR forecasts.\u00a0 But they do provide a good general idea of coming streamflows.<\/p>\n<p>Lucas also forwarded me some interesting charts (below) comparing our current snowpack (s.w.e.) on Nevada Ridge with previous years (it should be noted that these snotel records only go back to the early 1990&#8217;s).\u00a0 Chart 1 ranks the top levels of snow water equivalent recorded on February 16th of each water year.\u00a0 Chart 2 ranks the highest peak s.w.e. for the water year and what date that level occurred.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2-18-Snowpack-Ranking.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-562\" src=\"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/2-18-Snowpack-Ranking.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Lucas also forwarded a current Non-Exceedence Projection for s.w.e. on Nevada Ridge (click to enlarge)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/NR_non-exceed_projection_2-18.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-563\" src=\"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/NR_non-exceed_projection_2-18-1024x696.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/NR_non-exceed_projection_2-18-1024x696.gif 1024w, https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/NR_non-exceed_projection_2-18-300x204.gif 300w, https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/NR_non-exceed_projection_2-18-768x522.gif 768w, https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/NR_non-exceed_projection_2-18-150x102.gif 150w, https:\/\/nevadacreek.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/NR_non-exceed_projection_2-18-400x272.gif 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The short summary is that we can anticipate some heavy streamflows this spring.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I have posted the February Montana Water Supply Outlook Report.\u00a0 It can be viewed on the Nevada Creek &#8211; Water Supply Data page.
