There was a partial breach of Douglas canal beginning late Saturday. The breach is located at the upper section of the canal approximately 2 miles downstream of the main diversion. Evidently it was an earlier repaired gopher patch that gave way and then began expanding. I attempted manual repairs to the breach today, but my attempts failed while the breach continued to expand. I finally decided it necessary to shut the canal off until equipment could be brought in.
An excavator will be on site late tomorrow morning (Monday the 16th). Repairs should be completed by the end of the day and deliveries resumed through the canal.
Please note that vegetation in the upper section of Douglas canal has continued to grow, resulting in decreased capacity for water flows. We may begin to experience limitations to deliveries if demand continues to increase.
Thank you.
